'Run for Polio 2010'
CA's 5K Run for Polio was a huge success.
CA's 5K Run for Polio was a huge success.
All who ran put in an amazing effort.
If you did not run, this is your chance to get involved. We need to raise £3,000 towards the CAPEI Gifts of Truth Project later this year. Support us by choosing one of our runners to sponsor.
So in the Running Line, we have...
1. Winifred Nantume
http://www.justgiving.com/winifred-nantume
Winifred completed her registration form whilst on night duty with Elizabeth Babatunde just 2 nights before the race. She hadnt trained, she hadn't started collecting donations, she wasn't even sure she would be able to run. But she turned up on the day and totally smashed the 5K!
2. Phillips Alayande
http://www.justgiving.com/O-Phillips-Alayande
Phillips' enthusiasm for the cause enabled him to gain supporters from everywhere he went, from London to Sheffield. He raised a considerable amount but there were some who doubted whether he would make the race let alone get to the finish line. Look's who's smiling now, our Phillips did better than finish, he came 3rd place!
3. Hope Ayodele
http://www.justgiving.com/Hope-Ayodele
Hope had a tough week in the build up to the race. She was fighting a cold which prevented her from making it for an important exam just 2 nights before the race. But with determination and perseverance, Hope showed up on the day and ran with all her might and all her heart for all those children who will never run because of the debilitating disease polio. Hope gave it to polio where it hurts, right up to the finish line!
4. Tolu Unuefa
http://www.justgiving.com/Tolu-Unuefa
Aunty Tolu is so much more than just the mother of CA's Events and Fundraising Co-ordinator, Tumi Unuefa. With only one week to prepare, she came with earphones in her ears and bottle of water in her hand and completed the whole 5K like it was a walk in the park, literally!
5. Tapiwa Madovi
http://www.justgiving.com/Tapiwa
Tapiwa was one of the first to jump onboard once he heard about the Run for Polio event. He understands the vision that CA has to assist in eradicating this intolerable disease and was keener than most to see the CAPEI project come to life. Tapiwa came prepared for the race physically and mentally, running because he knew getting to the finish line at Albany Park would bring the race against polio closer to its finish line!
6. Nurcan Huseyin
http://www.justgiving.com/NurcanHuseyin
Nurcan was so moved by the cause that she held a campaign of her own. This woman's sheer determination and passion for the cause is inspirational. She rallied everyone she knew and actually brought the most supporters on the day. Her goal? To finish and make everyone who believed in her and the cause proud. Well done Nurcan, You did it!
7. Rex Osafo - Asare
http://www.justgiving.com/rexoa5k
London Marathon Runner, Rex was born ready for this race. When asked if he would run, Rex simply said when and where. He knew it was such a good cause and was ready to take on the 5K challenge. But our Rex doesn't do things by half, he not only took on the challenge, he grabbed it and tossed it to the ground in a victorius grand slam. Rex came 1st with a record breaking time of 31 minutes 52 seconds; Go Rex!
8. Shy Kelevra
http://www.justgiving.com/Shy-Kelevra
Shy Kelevra started off the race with words of motivation and a 5 minute warm up session. He ensured that all our runners were mentally and physically ready to run the whole 5K even those who hadn't trained. He went on to run a good race himself, making it to the finish line well under 40 minutes despite nursing a leg injury. That is determination!
9. Elizabeth Babatunde
http://www.justgiving.com/Elizabeth-Babatunde
Elizabeth's passion for eradicating polio is clear for all to see. Watching all the runners run with such passion and enthusiasm filled her with a sense of hope and pride because she knew they had caught the vision of CAPEI. With the help of 2 supporters, she made it to the finish line in no time at all!
10. Stephen Mason
Justgiving page awaited!
Stephen only got the clearance to make it for the run a week before the date. He came ready to beat polio with all his might. Stephen ran the whole 5K at a steady pace reaching the finish line in 2nd place at just over 33 minutes. Well done Stephen!
